Stepping Out of my Comfort Zone

Stepping Out of my Comfort Zone

I’ve thought about starting a blog for a while, a few years ago I published an anonymous one for a short time, but that aside have always talked myself out of it.

I don’t think of myself as a natural “writer” of articles, and truthfully, I’ve never been entirely sure what people would be interested in hearing from me. However, I’ve been challenged recently to step out of my comfort zone, and so this blog is my attempt to do something about that.

What you’ll read here will be my thoughts,  ideas, observations, and opinions. Some of those will be the results of conversations, or possibly even joint pieces and some won’t be. I won’t be going it alone. I’ll be using tools that help with structure, grammar, spelling, and even research. Technology is there to support the process, not replace it.

I’ll be focusing mostly on the professional areas I spend my time in: technology, AI, data, cyber, and “cloud” (whatever that means these days). Although I may touch on some detail around technology, there are others far better qualified with the domain expertise to do that, I will focus instead on technology in a broader sense... also don’t be surprised if a little rugby or sports sneaks in occasionally.

Aside from challenging myself, this blog has a few goals:

  • To clarify my own thinking
  • To keep learning
  • To maybe spark some conversations
  • And who knows — possibly even make some new connections

I would like to say thanks to some people Gregory Mark, Andrew Leach, Ben Blomerley, Marcus Harris, Christopher Young and Cobus Visagie — you’ve encouraged this more than you probably realise over the last few months, so thank you, at least if that doesn’t turn out to be a good thing, I can blame you too! 😆

If you’ve had a similar experience — stepping into the unknown, trying something new, sharing your ideas publicly — I’d love to hear about it. Get in touch.
